MailChimp, a leading email marketing platform, experienced another security breach in January 2023, in which hackers were able to access an internal customer support and account administration tool, resulting in the data of 133 customers being compromised.
The company believes the hackers were able to gain access through a social engineering attack on MailChimp employees and contractors. The attack was discovered and reported to affected customers within 24 hours, but it is not known if any of the stolen data has been misused. This is not the first time MailChimp has suffered a security breach, with previous incidents occurring in April and August of 2022.
In order to protect yourself and your email subscribers, it is important to take the necessary precautions such as enabling two-factor authentication, being vigilant of suspicious emails, using strong and unique passwords, keeping your MailChimp account and software up-to-date, and monitoring your account activity regularly.
